The Costa del Sol has been recognised for the second time as Europe’s Best Golf Destination 2025 by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) during the organisation’s convention held in Gran Canaria. This annual event, considered the most productive and accessible in the European golf tourism sector, brings together nearly 800 delegates from the golf tourism industry, representing Europe, Africa, and the Gulf States, according to a statement from the Diputación de Málaga.
IAGTO is the global organisation for the golf tourism industry, comprising more than 2,700 golf tour operators, golf resorts, golf hotels, airlines, tourism boards, and specialised media across 98 countries. This award, granted by the industry’s own professionals, highlights the excellence and appeal of the Costa del Sol as a top destination for golfers worldwide. It recognises the quality of its courses, its tourism infrastructure, and the comprehensive experience it offers visitors.
The selection of the Costa del Sol was based on direct evaluations by IAGTO member tour operators, who are responsible for over 87% of golf packages sold worldwide.Approximately half of the buyers attending this European convention come from the 22% of the sector’s most powerful source markets, further reinforcing the importance of this award.Francisco Salado, President of Turismo Costa del Sol, emphasised that “with more than seventy golf courses, nearly 70% of those found in Andalusia, the Costa del Sol not only leads the segment at the national level but also cements itself as one of the most attractive destinations on the continent for golf travellers.”
Meanwhile, the Minister of Tourism and Andalucía Exterior, Arturo Bernal, highlighted that the recognition from IAGTO “once again confirms that the Costa del Sol and Andalusia set the quality standard for golf tourism in Europe.”
